About Economics

Economics for competitive exams covers basic concepts, banking and finance, and the Indian economy. Basic concepts include demand and supply, inflation, GDP, national income and market structures. Banking and finance covers the Reserve Bank of India, monetary policy tools such as the repo rate, types of banks and financial markets. The Indian economy covers the Union Budget, taxation, fiscal deficit and major government schemes.

Banking exams such as IBPS and SBI test banking and financial awareness in detail, while UPSC and SSC focus more on concepts and the structure of the economy. Clear definitions matter here: many questions turn on the exact difference between two similar terms.

How to prepare

  • Learn definitions precisely: revenue deficit vs fiscal deficit, repo vs reverse repo.
  • Understand what each RBI tool does to the money supply, not just its name.
  • Make a short note of major schemes with their ministry, launch year and aim.
  • Scheme details and rates change; check recent official sources for the latest figures.
