About History
History questions cover three broad periods. Ancient India runs from the Indus Valley Civilisation through the Vedic age, the Mauryas and Guptas, and the rise of Buddhism and Jainism. Medieval India covers the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal Empire, and regional kingdoms such as Vijayanagara and the Marathas. Modern India traces British rule, social reform movements and the freedom struggle up to Independence.
Most exams test Modern India the most, especially the national movement: its leaders, sessions of the Indian National Congress, acts passed by the British, and the major movements from 1857 to 1947. Art, culture and architecture questions also appear regularly.
Exams that test it
How to prepare
- Build a timeline for each period and attach events, rulers and acts to it.
- For the freedom struggle, link each movement to its year, leader and cause.
- Revise "who founded / who wrote / who built" facts with flashcards; they are quick marks.
- Read temple, painting and architecture styles together with the dynasty that produced them.
